Tom started drumming at 11 years old in School, getting the bug for it when he formed his first band at age 15. His teaching style is energetic, fun and passionate with an emphasis on engaging lessons and setting achievable goals for his students.

In 2007 Tom graduated with honours in Jazz, Popular and Commercial Music and has never looked back, forming SHIELDS in 2011 and going on to release multiple works with his 5-piece alt rock brothers.

Having toured the UK and Europe playing a host of festivals (most memorable was Glastonbury in 2015) and even the Middle East with both SHIELDS and our home grown street theatre group ‘Spark’, Tom has always taught drums and found a passion in imparting his knowledge to students of all ages and ability levels while working as a recording and gigging musician.

Having worked for 15 years as an independent tutor, Tom has decided to start his own School at a brand new facility with the aim of empowering his students to learn and take joy from studying the drum kit as an instrument, but also in gaining a passion for music to last a life time.

FAQs

What courses do you teach?

Tom teaches using the Pop and Rock course offerings from both Rock School and Trinity. These courses cater for Grades 1-8 and have some brilliant songs to play along with, as well as providing an accredited exam at each level, should students wish to engage in that activity.

What safeguarding and child protection policies do you have in place?

All members of staff associated with the school have up to date DBS checks as well as training on safeguarding and child protection which is updated every year. Upon signing up for group lessons, you will be provided with our child protection and safeguarding policies but they can also be found HERE.

Do I need a drum kit to start learning?

Absolutely not! Drum kits can be expensive and it is recommended to take your time before buying anything, especially if the student is very young and/or inexperienced at learning an instrument. Should you need advice on what to buy and where from, Tom is always available to answer your questions.
